Questions, answered plainly.

What is Generosity?

Generosity is a not-for-profit society of patronage. Our Maestros — seasoned executives, accomplished founders, distinguished professionals, acclaimed creators, renowned investors — make themselves available, occasionally and selectively, to Inquirers who would benefit from an hour of their judgment. Each Interaction carries a Donation the Inquirer pays directly to a Charity the Maestro has chosen. The Maestro receives nothing. Generosity charges nothing. The Charity receives everything. It is, in plain terms, the opposite of an expert marketplace.

How does this work?
  1. Maestros volunteer to join Generosity. They choose a Charity they want to support, specify what kind of Interaction they are open to, what kind of Inquirers they want to interact with, how, when, and what Donation they ask the Inquirer to remit to the Charity in lieu of the Interaction.
  2. Inquirers browse Generosity’s directory of Maestros, choose a Maestro, understand the Donation & Charity for an Interaction, and send an Interaction Request to the Maestro as per the Schedule.
  3. Upon acceptance of the Request by the Maestro, Inquirers remit the Donation stipulated to the Charity specified.
  4. Once Generosity verifies the Donation, the Interaction is set on the Schedule the Inquirer and the Maestro have agreed upon.
Who are Maestros?

Generosity’s Maestros are all seasoned executives, accomplished founders, distinguished professionals, acclaimed creators, renowned investors, or other elite individuals.
They’re known not just for expertise, but for judgment. They’re individuals who have spent many years building, leading, shaping, and creating at a high level. They’re leaders whose perspective has been earned through years of craft and consequential decisions.

Who is an Inquirer?

If you're reading this, you're probably a prospective Inquirer. An Inquirer is a person who Requests an Interaction with the Maestro to seek their expertise or guidance, in lieu of a Donation they voluntarily pay to a Charity of the Maestro's choice.

What is a Donation?

A Donation is a sum of money specified by the Maestro, and voluntarily paid by the Inquirer to a Charity chosen by the Maestro, in lieu of the Maestro accepting a Request for an Interaction by the Inquirer. A Maestro may be willing to engage in various types of Interactions and each Interaction typically carries a different Donation amount.

Why might I, a prospective Inquirer, want to connect with Maestros?

Most Inquirers come with a real question — a strategic sense-check, a hard call to pressure-test, a perspective they want from someone who has lived it. They get an hour of judgment from someone whose time is normally not for sale; the Maestro's chosen Charity receives the Donation. Both sides come away the better for it.

What is an Interaction?

An Interaction is the manner in which the Maestro helps the Inquirer, in lieu of the Inquirer voluntarily donating a sum of money chosen by the Maestro to a Charity of the Maestro’s choice.
An Interaction can be synchronous (a live video call) or asynchronous (written exchanges).
On their Generosity Profile, a Maestro declares in advance what types of Interactions they are open to, at what Schedules, and what Donations to which Charity each one of them entails.
The Inquirer chooses one of those Interactions and sends a Request for a particular time along with their objective of the Request.
If and when the Maestro accepts the Request, Generosity asks the Inquirer to remit the Donation specified in the Interaction to the Charity specified in the Interaction, and produce proof of the Donation.
Once Generosity verifies the Donation, the Interaction is scheduled.

What types of Interactions are there?

Interactions are 1:1 by default, and either asynchronous (written exchanges) or synchronous (a live video call or in-person session). \nFor synchronous Interactions, the Maestro chooses the duration (15 / 30 / 45 / 60 mins, or half-day / full-day for in-person) and the conferencing platform (Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams) or the venue type (the Maestro's office, or an eatery). For asynchronous Interactions, the Inquirer sends their correspondence in writing on Generosity and the Maestro replies on Generosity (so neither party sees the other's real email). \nSome examples of Interactions: \n1. "Donate ₹5,000 to Smile Foundation to meet Maestro Ms. ABC on Zoom for 30 mins on one of the following Schedules: any available Saturday 2pm slot starting from 4-Apr-26 onwards." \n2. "Donate ₹2,000 to HelpAge India to exchange an email with Maestro Mr. XYZ who typically replies within a week to your queries." \nInquirers can choose only an Interaction pre-defined by the Maestro.

Why do Maestros join Generosity?

To give back — selectively, sparingly, and on their own terms.
Maestros choose Generosity for one or more of the following reasons while ensuring their time remains valuable and the proceeds are directed toward something larger than the transaction.

1. They care deeply about causes and want to make an impact. 2. They want to help others to benefit from their experience. 3. They want to cultivate a community of charitable-minded individuals. 4. It doesn’t behove them to sell their time per minute on expert marketplaces and/or they are contractually prohibited from moonlighting on the side.

Are there any Asks and Don’t Asks?

Yes. Maestros declare their off-limit topics on their Page and approve Requests on the strength of the Inquirer's stated objective. Inquirers are expected to keep the Interaction within the areas of that stated objective, and away from the off-limit topics.

Does the entire donation reach the Charity?

Yes. Generosity charges no fees — to the Maestro, to the Inquirer, or to the Charity. Inquirers remit Donations directly on the Charity's own website. The Charity may or may not pass payment-gateway fees on to the Inquirer; that is the Charity's prerogative, and Generosity has nothing to do with it. The costs of running Generosity are borne, personally, by its founder.

What about tax-exemption?

Donations paid by Inquirers are tax-exempt for them as long as they mention their PAN number while making a donation to receive the 10BE certificate which is mandatory to claim tax benefits in India. The 80G Donation receipt is typically issued immediately, but the 10BE certificate is typically issued by the Charity after the end of the Financial Year.

What kind of Charity can I find listed on Generosity?

Generosity currently supports some of the largest and most respected Charities in India. A Maestro can pick one or more of:

  • CRY - Child Rights and You (child rights)
  • Smile Foundation (education, health, livelihoods)
  • Goonj (rural development, disaster relief)
  • HelpAge India (elderly care)
  • Pratham Education Foundation (education)
  • Project Nanhi Kali (girls' education)
  • Swades Foundation (rural development)
  • SNEHA (community, maternal and child health)
  • Magic Bus India Foundation (youth skilling, education)
  • Wildlife Trust of India (wildlife conservation)
  • Blue Cross of India (animal welfare)
  • Indian Cancer Society (cancer care)
  • Apnalaya (urban poverty, women, children)

Anyone may nominate a Charity not listed above — including one they are themselves associated with. We will consider it, provided the Charity is a reputed not-for-profit registered under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act in India, and is not engaged in religious, political, or quasi-profit activities.
